Frequently Asked Questions

We specialize in psychological, neuropsychological, and psychoeducational evaluations that are gender- and neuro-affirming. These assessments can help answer questions about:

  • ADHD and attention challenges
  • Autism
  • Learning differences (like dyslexia or dyscalculia)
  • Anxiety, depression, and other mood concerns
  • Developmental delays

Our goal is always the same: to provide clarity, highlight strengths, and create recommendations you can use.

A neuropsychological evaluation, also referred to as neurodevelopmental, looks at how the brain is working and how that impacts learning, memory, emotions, and daily life. It is tailored to your concerns and may explore:

  • Cognitive development (thinking and reasoning skills)
  • Attention and focus
  • Learning and memory
  • Executive functioning (planning, organization, self-control)
  • Language and communication
  • Academic skills
  • Social, emotional, and behavioral functioning
  • Adaptive/life skills

This type of evaluation is especially helpful when challenges seem complex or interconnected.

A psychoeducational evaluation focuses on how a student learns. It identifies learning strengths and differences so families and schools can put the right supports in place. Results can help with:

  • Educational planning.
  • Requests for accommodations (such as IEPs or 504 plans).
  • Identifying if specialized instruction is needed.

This evaluation is often sought when a student is struggling academically or when families want a clearer picture of learning style.

A psychological evaluation looks more closely at emotions, behavior, and personality. It helps uncover what may be affecting daily life, such as anxiety, depression, or social challenges. This type of evaluation can:

  • Clarify diagnoses when things feel unclear.
  • Identify the severity of symptoms.
  • Guide therapy or other supports when progress has stalled.

It usually includes interviews, questionnaires, and other tools that give insight into how a person is feeling and coping.

No. We focus on developmental, learning, and emotional evaluations—not medical conditions such as concussions, TBIs, or chronic health issues.

We make the process as smooth and supportive as possible.

  • Step 1: Intake (90 minutes, virtual)

We meet with you to understand your concerns, goals, and gather relevant background information.
  • Step 2: Testing (1 – 2 days, 2 – 4 hours)

We complete testing over one or two mornings, depending on your child’s age and needs. In addition to one-on-one activities on testing day, parents/teachers complete questionnaires and, when helpful, we collaborate with other providers (e.g., therapists, physicians, etc.).
  • Step 3: Feedback (1 hour, virtual)

We meet again to go over results, answer your questions, and provide practical recommendations. You also receive a detailed written report.
  • Testing sessions are scheduled from 9:00 am–1:00 pm to allow time for kids that may need more time to adjust and for breaks, as needed. It is possible to complete testing in less time than is scheduled.
  • Parents typically wait in our comfortable waiting area while testing is completed. For older children (8 years and older), parents are welcome to drop off and pick up when testing is complete.
  • For younger children (under age 5), parents sometimes join part or all of the session to help their child feel comfortable.

We strive to make the process supportive, not stressful.

We are an out-of-network practice, which means we are not directly contracted with insurance. This allows us to provide comprehensive, individualized evaluations without insurance restrictions.

Here is what that means for you:

  • You pay for the evaluation directly.
  • We provide all the documentation needed to request reimbursement from your insurance company.
  • Coverage varies by plan, so we encourage you to call your provider and ask about “out-of-network psychological testing” benefits.

Simply fill out our contact form and we will be in touch to set up your intake appointment.
